    THE CHINESE CONNECTION
    BRUCE LEE MOVIE AD
    original newspaper clipping
    3½" x 8
    "
The plot of 1972's "The Chinese Connection" takes place in 1908 China, where martial arts student Chen Zhen (Lee) r
eturns to Shanghai to marry his fiancée. He discovers his teacher has died while he was away. Members of a local Japanese dojo show up d
    uring the funeral
and insult the Chinese students. The bullying continues, with Chen fighting back, but when he discovers the truth - that his teacher was poisoned on the orders of the dojo's master - he sets off on a doomed mission of revenge.
You may have noticed in the ad that the drive-in theater's co-hit was 1971's "Fists of Fury," with Bruce Lee in his first starring role as "Cheng," a city boy who moves with his cousins to work at an ice factory. He does this after swearing an oath of non-violence, promising his family never to get involved in fighting. When members of his family begin disappearing, however, the resulting mystery and pressures force him to break that vow and take matters into his own hands (and fists).
This listing is for an original (not a copy) newspaper clipping from 7-4-73. It is approx. 3½" x 8" and advertises "The Chinese Connection" at a San Diego walk-in theater and a drive-in theater (remember them?) The clipping is from a San Diego newspaper, shows fading/tanning and has “7-4-73” in ink on the front and back. It also has the remains of double-stick tape on the reverse (clipping was removed from a scrapbook).
