    Description

Lot of two Judaean/Biblical "Widow's Mites", Minted in Jerusalem 103-76 B.C. AE Prutah (14-15 MM). Nice original coins of a type that circulated in the Holy Land during the time of Jesus. Cornucopia on one side and Hebrew inscription within wreath on the other. Minted by Alexander Jannaeus (Yehonatan) 103 - 76 BC. Nice clear inscriptions that are mostly complete - the inscriptions are unreadable on the majority of these coins. Some Holy Land find dirt still adhereing. See photos for actual condition.
These coin types are candidates for "Widow's Mites" along with the sunwheel/anchor types which were also minted under Alexander Jannaeus in Jerusalem. These coins were minted both as Leptons and Prutahs; the Prutahs being the larger in size. Leptons and Prutahs were the commonest small coppers circulating in Jerusalem during the time of Jesus. Reference Biblical parable in Mark 12: 41 - 44.
An opportunity to hold in your hand coins that were possibly held by Jesus Himself.
