JUDAEA. Domitian. AD 81-96. Æ (26mm, 16.10 g, 12h). Judaea Capta series. Caesarea Maritima mint. Struck AD 92-93. Radiate head right, wearing aegis; Countermarks: (1) figure standing, holding spear, all in rectangle, and (2) head in oval. / Palm tree with date clusters. Hendin 1458; RPC II 2307. See Howego 182 and 48 for the countermarks. Ex. Baker collection with tag, on which he notes that the countermarks are likely of Legio X Fretensis. Interesting coin, where the countermarks of the legion involved in the capture of Jerusalem, Herodium, and Masada applied their marks to a coin celebrating their victories.
