"Like a Rock." – Long-running 1990s advertising campaign for Chevy Trucks.
A 1991 magazine ad (citing the C1500 Chevy pickup as a Consumer Digest Best Buy) in that legendary advertising campaign was headlined: "You don't get to be America's favorite half-ton pickup on looks alone." The copy went on to cite the 1991 truck's bigger cab with better visibility, increased standard horsepower, higher payload, heavier frame, and the highest 2WD full-size pickup gas mileage. There was a lot to like about the '91 Chevy pickups beyond "looks alone." But these pickups were definitely at the top of the list on looks, and with modifications, could become real road beasts.
Offered here is an excellent example of how an already good-looking '91 C1500 "short-bed" pickup can be aesthetically enhanced and built-up to astonishing levels of performance. While maintaining the attractive looks the truck is known for, a 376-cubic-inch, twin-turbocharged V8 delivers an eye-popping 728 horsepower. If this C1500 is ever used for hauling, whatever cargo it carries will reach its destination in record time. Having traveled just 1,533 miles since its re-powering-this is a true low-mileage, blistering street-performance package.
Outside, the red paint was an especially good choice for the smooth-sided design, which has only been enhanced with red grille, red bumpers, red lower-front spoiler, red mirror caps, and smooth red tailgate. The body is free of chrome trim for a purity-of-design visual statement; the only chrome appears on the custom wheels. Side-exit exhaust ports offer one indication that this is no stock pickup. The Hoosier slicks on the rear and the rollbar drive home that point. Across the entire truck (including on the added cargo-bed-mounted roll-cage supports), the paint is fresh, uniformly glossy and free of damage. Serious performance and trick-free good looks are the hallmark of this build.
Inside, the initial impression is stock, with performance enhancements that aren't of the superficial, look-at-me variety. Gray fabric tweed upholstery is stock. The condition of the fabric is excellent with some signs of wear on the driver-side door trim. The interior full roll cage, including the passenger-side, chassis-stiffening support bar, is painted in gray to blend in (as much as that's possible). Five-point shoulder safety belts blend in a bit less. The stock-appearing dashboard includes a host of digital, engine-monitoring instruments, and the drag-racing, floor mounted shifter ends any doubt as to the truck's capabilities and intent. The black, factory Chevrolet-branded steering wheel remains with an upgraded Alpine® audio head unit in the factory-radio location. Cabin carpeting is charcoal protected with rubber mats.
Opening the hood produces gasps from onlookers. The entire engine bay is devoted to power... and more power. Twin Garrett® turbochargers with their associated air-induction systems, inter coolers, and plumbing flank the LSX 376-cubic-inch V8. The impression is of a V8 on steroids, and that's reinforced by the engine's exhaust note, even before the 571 pound-feet of torque is brought to the pavement. (Be sure to view the accompanying video for a sample of the exhaust music.) An aluminum radiator is mounted. The modifications have clearly been professionally executed; welds are precise, fuel-injection system is beautifully routed. All components are properly in place. Viewed from below, the truck's chassis is spotless. The performance modifications are obvious and impressive; the rear-end setup and exhaust-routing are breathtaking.
The excellent overall condition of this highly modified '91 C1500Chevy pickup is faithfully presented from every angle (including from below) in the more than 150 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available at the GarageKeptMotors site. That said, we always encourage in-person, up-close inspections by interested parties-or their representatives-at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. We ask only that appointments be made in advance by phone or email so that we can devote our full attention to our visitors and this remarkable truck. Our showroom is not open to the public. Please feel free to get in touch by email or phone to ask any questions.
This C1500 is a professional build created for a particular purpose in the hands of an experienced and capable pilot. Right now, we're pretty sure some number of such prospective owners are thinking they are that pilot. Only one of them will be correct.

About Garage Kept Motors
Garage Kept Motors, LLC specializes in classic and specialty online auto sales.
For our consignors, we are the only auto brokers that offer a Transparent Sale Disclosure. This means, when a car sells, we provide an exact copy of the Bill of Sale. We do this so our clients know exactly who bought their car, where it went, and most importantly how much we sold it for. No funny business.
For our buyers, our vehicles are listed on the Internet, with over 100 photos, including undercarriage pictures, and walk-around videos of the vehicles running plus a narrative-style write-up of the cars history and features. Our international exposure allows us to sell cars across the globe, and we sell a majority of them out of state and overseas. We deliver honesty and consistency in our photos and descriptions, a “no surprise” approach, so buyers, both near and far, can invest with confidence sight unseen. We are not a gallery. Vehicles can be seen locally by appointment as potential buyers are given our undivided attention.
